Description
A pair of Byzantine Gold solidi, the first of emperor Anastasius, AD 491 – 518, struck at Constantinople, the reverse depicting Victory holding a long jeweled cross. (20.5mm, 4.42g). The second is struck by the emperor Justin II, AD 527 – 565, struck at the same mint as the other, depicting Constantinopolis seated rt., holding a cross and globus cruciger. (21mm, 4.45g). Both are in very nice condition, the Anastasius particularly sharp. Ex Los Angeles private collection.
