Description
A large Egyptian wood panel with a pair of facing eyes, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, resembling the decoration on some of the rectangular coffins from the Middle Kingdom. The panel is from a large piece of funerary furniture and is richly painted with six vertical columns of hieroglyphic text and one horizontal, around a register containing a pair of eyes with brows facing the viewer. The panel is actually two pieces of wood joined at the center, the wedge-shaped tongue and groove attachment system apparent on each end. 25 1/2 in x 11 1/2 in (64.6 x 29.2 cm). Well-preserved without repair or restoration, the color quite vibrant with light deposits throughout. Ex New Jersey estate.
