TWO CANADIAN INUIT SCULPTURES, SECOND HALF 20TH CENTURY, comprising a serpentine sculpture, "Metamorphosis," by Gideon Qauqjuaq (Canadian/Inuit b. 1941), Gjoa Haven, circa 1991, in the form of a transformative seal, reversing to a signed underside, height: 15 1/2"; a black stone sculpture, "Man Pulling Line Which Runs Through Dead Seal," by Luccassie Echalook (Canadian/Inuit b. 1942), Quebec, circa 1974, underside dated [19]74 beside a copyright symbol, numbered "23315" and signed in syllabics, height: 15 1/2". Provenance: "Metamorphosis" attributed to Gideon Qauqjuaq was purchased from Inuit Galerie, Mannheim, Germany 24 June, 1990. Both sculptures are accompanied by their original receipts of purchase.
Condition
Each sculpture in excellent condition, with no apparent cracks, chips, or repairs. Each is carved with regards to the natural stone formation.
