This constituted a part of Schoolcraft's "A View of the Lead Mines...." but was not included in that work as published. The folding map, "Countries bordering on the Mississippi and Missouri" (30.5x37 cm.) shows the U.S. from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, and Ohio to past the Mandan Villages (east to west, 80° to 99°, south to north, 30° to 43°). The map is not in Wheat Transmississippi. Wagner-Camp relates that "Schoolcraft and one companion named Levi Pettibone left Potosi (in the lead-mining region of southeastern Missouri) on November 6, 1818, and returned on February 9, 1819, having traveled an estimated nine hundred miles. The settlers that Schoolcraft and Pettibone encountered were just beginning to build cabins and plant crops..."
