Description
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE/CE. A wonderful pair of matched male and female ceramic figures! Female kneels wearing skirt, breasts tattooed, holding bowl filled with some form of food in her left hand held behind her shoulder, right hand on her stomach. Male sits with legs slightly spread, wearing loin cloth with left hand raised toward his mouth, right clenched and probably once holding a wooden implement. Interestingly, he wears bells in his hair. Both figures have marvelous patina and coloration with liberal original black pigment. Size: female measures 15-1/2"H; male is 13-1/2"H.
