Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. Double lobed red burnished vessel bird form. Size: 4.5" H (11.4 cm).
West Mexican civilization dates to 2nd millennium BC. In the area of Colima on the Pacific coast, a rich pottery tradition arose at the end of the 1st millennium BC in which deep shaft tombs were often filled with pottery in the form animals and human figures, likely companions and offerings of sustenance for the Afterlife.
Provenance: Formerly in the Estate of Paul Goodman, Houston, Texas, acquired before 1990.
