Ashanti/Akan speaking peoples, Ghana, female figure seated on a raised stool, depicting a woman of importance, sitting with erect posture and hands on her abdomen, sporting a necklace and a vertical coiffure, blackened color with stool in lighter brown, well carved, apparently for traditional use, 12.5"h. Provenance: Retired Southern California Art Professor who collected tribal art beginning in the 1950's in Europe and elsewhere. Some pieces were exhibited in small museums starting in 1988.
