Description
Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A stunning stucco figure of a woman shown standing as she holds her drapery open to reveal her decorated body. Painted in hues of black and red on white, her hourglass figure is heavily adsorbed with necklaces, anklets, bracelets, armbands, and suspended pendants at her waist. A relief necklace and earrings frames her sweet visage which displays huge, almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, and bowed lips, all surmounted by a wreath that crowns her upswept coiffure. The statuette may have commemorated the deceased, and the large necklace she is wearing may indicate that the woman represented was of elite status. Size: 2.1" W x 7" H (5.3 cm x 17.8 cm)
