16 x 16 inches: image
40.6 x 40.6 cm
18.75 x 22 inches: paper
47.6 x 55.9 cm
Edition 22/24
signed dated and numbered on back lower right in pencil
unframed, two small imperfections on lower left as described in images. James Casebere photographs intricate architectural models which he carefully constructs in his studio. Images of the American suburban home are a reoccurring theme in his work over the past 30 years. This two-run waterless lithograph was published by 21 Steps Editions in Albuquerque, NM.
Casebere's pioneering work has established him at the forefront of artists working with constructed photography. He has devised increasingly complex models that he subsequently photographs in his studio. Based on architectural, art historical, and cinematic sources, his table-sized constructions are made of simple materials, pared down to essential forms and are hauntingly evocative.
Selected collections include the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Solomon R.
Guggenheim Museum, NY; Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; Walker Art Center,
Minneapolis; Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the
Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
