Utagawa Kunimaru (1793 - 1829, Japan), Publisher Maruya Jinpachi (Marujin, Enjudô). c. 1810.
Title: Calligraphy (Sho), from an untitled series of the Four Accomplishments. Depicting two Bijin (beautiful women), one holding calligraphy materials and one cherry blossoms with their patron. Poem upper left reads: Sakura no ma rokuju no shina sadame Hikaru Genji no kimi ga kurumaza (In the cherry room at the age of sixty this Hikaru Genji selects from the circle).
Sight size: 14.5"h x 10"w, Framed: 20.75"h x 15.75"w. Museum of Fine Arts Boston Accession Number: 50.2317.PROVENANCE: directly from the lifetime collection and estate inventory of second generation, distinguished world-wide collectors and esteemed New England Antique Dealers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
