Description
Pre-Columbian, Teotihuacan, Mexico, ca. 400 CE. This is a deep bluish-green stone carved figure with incised arms at its sides, differentiated legs and headband, a triangular nose, slit eyes, and ear spools. Stone figures from Teotihuacan -- which was a large, cosmopolitan city that dominated Mesoamerican culture for centuries -- often have idealized features (rather than individual depictions) and calm expressions. Simple lines are used economically to create powerful sculptures without an overuse of detail. A figure like this would probably have inlaid eyes, perhaps made of shell or some other organic material, and would have been dressed in perishable clothing during ceremonies or display. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.5" W x 6.5" H (6.4 cm x 16.5 cm).
