Iron. Japan, 18th - 19th cent.
A sukashi tsuba in the old ko-shoami tradition, of oval form and bearing ryohitsu, the rim notched to the inner edges; decorated with kiri (the most common Japanese armour / mon, and the symbol of straightness) here shown in various shapes; with engraved veins of the leaves. With strong age patina.
