Description
1st item: A Lock of Hair belonging to President Andrew Jackson, adhered to a card with printed name of noted early 20th century autograph collector/dealer Forest H. Sweet of Battle Creek, Michigan, upon which is written a handwritten note: "Hair of General Andrew Jackson, a portion of lot 96 of the Personal relics of President Andrew Jackson consigned and guaranteed genuine by Andrew Jackson the Fourth." Lock of hair measures about 2" and is housed in a 3" H x 7" W x 9" D shadowbox glass top case with brass label "Lock of Hair / President Andrew Jackson." 2nd item: Rare James Baillie lithograph, titled "The Death of General Andrew Jackson" with the last words attributed to Jackson below, "I am in the hands of a merciful God - I have full confidence in his goodness and mercy - The Bible is true." Subjects attending the President's deathbed are identified: Mrs. Adams, Major Lewis, Physician, Mrs. Donelson, and Major Donelson. Lithographed and published by J. Condition
1st item: Very good condition. 2nd item: 1" tear with small loss to right center margin, four other 1" margin tears to top center and upper left and right margins. 1 tear extends into Doctor's hair. Light toning.
