Item Details
Description
Europe, probably northern or Britain, ca. 16th century. This is a matching pair of beautifully carved wood door panels from a cathedral. The carving mirrors the shape of arched cathedral windows; above that design is an inset sunflower surrounded by ovoid shapes. These panels would have been made by village woodworkers in a time when the finest artwork was often channeled into religious items. Size: .6" thick x 6.4" W x 18" H (1.5 cm x 16.3 cm x 45.7 cm).
