Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nasca, 300 to 700 CE. This is a ceramic bowl with a painted earthy red interior and black band around the rim. The exterior is painted with a design of abstract lobster figures viewed from overhead. Crustaceans appear infrequently on Nazca art but a segment of their society would have been fishermen living along the Peruvian coast, so it is not surprising to see them depicted occasionally. Size: 5.75" W x 3.25" H (14.6 cm x 8.3 cm).
