Roman Bronze Figure of Cupid - God of Love
Item Details
Description
Rome, ca. 100 CE. Molded bronze figure of Cupid, the god of love, depicted as a cherub with wings outspread. This piece was at one time gilded, a process done where the essentially inert element gold is placed over top of the more likely to corrode bronze. A small piece like this would have been carried by a member of the god's cult. Size: 1.8" W x 3.25" H (4.6 cm x 8.3 cm).

Provenance: Ex-estate of M. Reiniger, Chicago, IL

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

#111233
Condition
The piece has heavy patina and almost all of the gilding has worn off (though check the feet and hands for remaining); features are clear and easy to make out. One arm broken at elbow with the lower section missing.
