Description
Rome, ca. 100 CE. Molded bronze figure of Cupid, the god of love, depicted as a cherub with wings outspread. This piece was at one time gilded, a process done where the essentially inert element gold is placed over top of the more likely to corrode bronze. A small piece like this would have been carried by a member of the god's cult. Size: 1.8" W x 3.25" H (4.6 cm x 8.3 cm).
