Description
A lovely soft celadon glazed bowl resting of tripod feet. On the sides of the bowl are several evenly spaced protruding knobs. These give the bowl a look of a flattened drum. It is possible that the piece is of Hirado origin as the Hirado potters did make some pieces in almost this exact color of celadon. We just are not sure - so will simply identify it as celadon glazed porcelain.
Condition
The interior of the shallow foot is unglazed and the clay shows a circular swirl pattern. There is a firing crack in the bottom of the foot - it does not go through to the other side. The piece measures 7 3/8" diameter by 7/8" high. We date the low bowl to the Meiji period, circa 1875-1890s. It is in excellent condition.
