Description
This attractive blue and white Imari plate dated from about 1750-1850, Edo period. It has relief design that appears to be a landscape scene - with tall trees on the left - a stream from the middle to the lower edge and some other landscape to the right. In the upper right quadrant there is an extensive set of Kanji characters - we have been advised that this is an ancient Chinese poem. A single mark is on the bottom of the plate - it translates as Qian - one letter from the Chinese word Qianlong. Right in the dead center of this mark is a spur mark - made when a tiny piece of clay is used to separate plates within the kiln,
Condition
The plate measures 8.4" (21.34 cm)diameter at the top and is 1.4" (3.56 cm) inches tall at the edge of the rim. It weighs 15.87 ounces (450 grams). The condition is very good - there is a tiny chip to the rim at the bottom center - within the blue geometric design of the lightly scalloped rim. No other cracks, hairlines or condition issues.
