Description
DESCRIPTION: Fred Cleveland (Navajo, 20th Century). Oil on vinyl canvas in wooden frame. Signed in lower right corner. Depicts man on horseback in desert plains with imposing rock formation in distance (possibly Monument Valley in Arizona) during a sunrise. Cleveland is a member of the Bitter Water and Kayonnie clans. He was born in a hogan on the Navajo Reservation near Ganado, Arizona where his family raised sheep. Cleveland went away to study for a year and a half at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. MEASUREMENTS: 29-1/2" x 23-1/2". Overall with frame 33" x 27-1/4". CONDITION: Minor paint spots on reverse of canvas. No other defects noted.
