framed. Andy Warhol began incorporating vehicles into his works in the 1960s. From the series Cars, this print was commissioned by art dealer Hans Mayer, who then showed it to Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz subsequently commissioned Warhol to reproduce cars from the company’s history, providing him with photographs on which he would base his prints.
Andy Warhol (born Andrew Warhola) was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement. He is particularly known for the breadth of his oeuvre, which encompassed painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, silkscreen, sculpture, film, and music. Warhol was fascinated with celebrity culture and status. His silkscreens of pop icons and mundane objects were particularly successful and cemented his place as a major artist. His studio, The Factory, served as a gathering place for distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons.
