FIRST EDITION OF A WORK ON ARNO RIVER, PRINTED IN TUSCANY (COLOGNE IS A FALSE PLACE OF ISSUE)
Corsini, Edoardo - Feroni, Silvio. Ragionamenti intorno allo stato del fiume Arno, e dell'acque della Valdinievole. Colonia: appresso Hans Wetergroot, 1732.
4to, 238x176 mm, contemporary full vellum binding, flat spine with gilt title on a label, red and green sprinkled edges; pp. 157, (9 b.); b/w title-page with a large chalcographic vignette showing a stream between the rocks; head-letters decorated with little small landscapes engraved on copper plate; fine head- and final-pieces finely engraved on copper plate with river landscapes, firms, putti and scientific instruments.
First edition, printed in Tuscany (Cologne is a false place of issue), attributed mainly to Silvio Feroni, but also to Edward Corsini and the final part to P. Guidi (cfr.: M. Parenti, Dizionario dei luoghi di stampa falsi, inventati o supposti; G. Melzi, Dizionario di opere anonime e pseudonime di scrittori italiani); it is a dialogue in three parts concerning the navigation of the river Arno, the channel of Gusciana, the ditches of the Padule di Fucecchio, the "remissione del fiume Pescia nel suo antico alveo", as well as other elements of the practice and the theory of thearchitettura d'acque (architecture of water).
Provenance: Two ownership inscriptions, one on a label at front paste-down ( "La Vecchia Parma - Antiquariato" ) and one handwritten at the bottom of title-page (unreadable).
