Barbera); vignette at title page representing a rose with motto "Non bramo altr'esca" (I ask no other bait).

Original edition, which has become very rare and sought after, of this important and highly esteemed work on the history of Florence, accompanied by many documents. Barbera in his " Memorie" says: «La Storia del Capponi era un'opera aspettata da molto tempo e dai Fiorentini e dagli Italiani. Cominciato verso il 1840…questo lavoro storico lo accompagnò per tutta la vita, e si può dire che lo tenesse occupato sino al 1875…» (Annali bibliogr. Barbèra, n. 273).

Light and small reddish spots at the first leaves, signs of use and light abrasions to the binding; back hinge of the first vol. a bit loose; tear to pp. 665-666 (without paper lacks or loss of text), and partial opening between the pp. 666 and 667 (both defects are easily restorable); front hinge of the second volume. open between pp. VI and VII (due to loose nerves; restorable). Copy with some defects, but overall in good condition.
