Item Details

Description

Good Rookwood plaque with a view of the Venetian harbor painted by Carl Schmidt in 1917. A large sailing vessel sits in the foreground with buildings visible in the background. This is a good period for Schmidt as his vases and plaques have more color and more detail. The sails of the main vessel are striped with many colors and there are clouds in the sky. Signed by Schmidt in the lower right hand corner and marked on the back with the company logo, the date and an impressed V. Size is 9 1/4 by 14 5/8 inches. Fine overall crazing with strong color. The frame is original and attached is a partial, original Rookwood typewritten label which lists the title as Reflections, Venice.
