Description
CHARLES HOGG (SCOTTISH, ACTIVE LATE 18TH / EARLY 19TH CENTURY) GEORGIAN CARVED AND INLAID MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK, eight-day brass works, the silvered brass dial having engraved decoration and inscribed "Charles Hogg / Prestopans"; hood displaying a molded broken-arch pediment with carved rosettes, fretwork-carved tympanum, arched door and side lights, and fluted full front columns with brass capitals and plinths; case waist featuring a highly figured door with shaped upper edge, glazed bull's eye, and string inlay, flanked by fluted corner columns; plain base with figured veneer outlined with simple string inlay above applied base molding, the whole raised on cut-out bracket feet. Pine secondary wood. Retains an old estate surface with warm color. Late 18th century. 87 1/2" HOA.

Condition
Currently in working condition. Central finial possibly replaced, lacking side finials. Hood with wear and small losses to pediment moldings, crack to veneered base panel, other areas of wear, repair, and small losses to veneers. Feet probably replaced. Crack to edge of dial.
