Description
Attributed to Samson, Edmé et Cie company (French, 1845-1969), circa late 19th/ early 20th century.
Sevres style ormolu mounted porcelain vase and cover, baluster form, the shaped cover in lilac and white ground surmounted with finial over gilt bronze collar and neck decorated with musical trophies and flowering motif on white ground over a continuous band of gilt enamel scrollwork. The body headed with 24 panels containing trailing flower bouquets within a stylized gilt border over a finely painted scene to the front with a recumbent beauty holding a lyre shaped harp, attended by a putto, probably representing the allegorical cupid and Venus, signed G. Poitevin, the reverse painted with a landscape and pond, mounted to each side with gilt bronze caryatid handles on a conforming socle and berried laurel leaf cast foot further mounted on a square canted metal base. Interior of lid is marked with double Louis in blue underglaze containing the letter N, outside the letter S. Approximate size 22.25”, square canted base 5.5”. Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Condition
Overall very good condition. There is gilt enamel loss to the rim of lid and foot. Very minor paint loss. Minor oxidation to the gilt bronze mounts. No chips, cracks or repairs noted.
