Artist Unknown (Continental, 19th Century) Two Landscapes. Oils on canvas, both illegibly signed 'C. W----' Canvases: 15" x 20" Frames: 19" x 24"

Painting with water at the left: there is a heavy varnish layer which has yellowed over time. There is a 2" x 1" section of overpainting at the upper right in the sky. There is craquelure along the bottom edge resulting in light flaking. There are 4-6 scattered pen-tip sized nicks to the surface with pigment loss. There are faint stretcher bar marks to the perimeter. Painting with water at the right: There is a heavy varnish layer which has yellowed over time. The upper right edge has pigment loss to a .75" x .75" section. There is an area of craquelure to the lower left with a 1" x 1" section of scattered pigment loss. In the water at the lower right, there is a 4" linear scratch with pigment loss. The painting has faint stretcher bar marks to the perimeter.
