One of the leading British sculptors of post war Britain, Lynn Chadwick is world renown primarily for metal works inspired by the human form and natural world. Lynn Russell Chadwick was born in Barnes, London in 1914 and died at the age of 88 at his home in Lypiatt Park in Gloucestershire in 2003. Lynn Chadwicks career as a sculptor spanned over 50 years. He never attended art school yet began his career in sculpture through exhibition design. He learned to weld and mastered new techniques in his quest to find architectural and engineering solutions for his work in mobiles and sculptures which later evolved in to constructions of solid shapes. Instead of clay or regular modelling materials, he worked with iron then later worked with bronze. Chadwick always asserted that the most important feature in his work was the “attitude”: what the figures express through their actual stance. A visual code was developed: rectangular heads for male figures and triangular heads for female figures. He created figures to interact with each other as well as the viewer of the sculpture. Lynn Chadwicks work is personal and remains timeless while maintaining its appeal to new audiences around the world.Lynn Chadwick ArtistLynn Russell Chadwick was an English sculptor and artist best known for his semi-abstract bronze and steel sculptures.
