Description
Pre-Columbian, West Coast Mexico, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A stunning hand-built and hand-painted polychrome terracotta olla created by the indigenous of West Coast Mexico. The decorative program for the most part consists of abstract stylized geometric motifs painted in black and white on the orange terracotta ground; however, there are also two panels painted with red textile or basket-weave inspired designs and two panels painted with what appear to be crustaceans in black on the orange ground. A beautiful piece! Size: 3-3/4"H x 4-1/2" in diameter at widest.
Provenance: Ex-private Pearson collection, Denver, CO; acquired at auction.
