Description
Southwestern United States or Mexico, ca. early 20th century CE. Incredible piece of folk art! Heavy solid piece of wood cut into a cross then covered with dozens of small milagros (also called ex-voto or dijes or promesas). Milagros are religious folk charms that are traditionally used for healing purposes and as votive offerings in Mexico, the southern United States, other areas of Latin America, and parts of the Iberian peninsula. This example has two large hearts along with other hearts, human appendages of all variety, pigs, cats, angels, Jesus, eyes, and birds, all applied with small nails. One of the finest examples we have ever seen! Size: 11"H.
