Item Details
Description
Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1942 CE. A fabulous and published ex-voto in oil on metal, depicting a 14-year-old boy falling from a tree who suffered two broken arms in the left panel, and the mother and son praying to the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos (of the lakes) in the right panel.

The text beneath translates as follows: "The day of 8th of May of 1942, my son of 14 years of age was on the highest part of a tree when suddenly he lost his grip and fell down, suffering two broken arms. And when I saw him in such a lamentable state, I wholeheartedly invoked the Holiest Virgin of San Juan de Los Lagos (of the lakes), who heard my supplication, even though his condition was severe and there was the danger of being handicapped for the rest of his life, San Juanita granted me this miracle of him being completely cured of both arms in a very short time. And to prove my faith and of gratitude, I make public this retablo to honor Glory and Reverence to such a miraculous Virgin. Acambaro, Guanajuato (Mexico) Maria Concepcion Silva de H." A fabulous example, beautifully composed with meticulously drafted text as well.
