Latin America, Mexico, 1971 CE. An oil on tin ex-voto painting dedicated to Holy Mary, Mother of God, of San Juan de los Lagos depicting a young married couple, the lady holding their infant, kneeling before the crowned Mary who is enrobed in blue, gold, and white and stands upon a crescent moon with bouyant angels floating in her hallowed presence. The gentleman has removed his sombrero and the couple is presenting lit candles to Mary as they ask for a miraculous cure for the woman's illness. A blooming cactus and maguey plant are included to indicate the Mexican setting. Size: the ex-voto itself measures 10-1/2" x 6-3/4"; framed 13" x 9".

The text reads, "En el Ano de 1966 Sencontraba la Sra. Nicolasa Grimaldo enferma y su esposo se la encomendo de todo corazon; a la Madre Santisima de San Juan de los Lagos le diera su alibio y en gratitud del maravilloso milagro que les yso dan gracias y dedican este Retablo, Sr. Carmen Matehuala. Oct. 23 del Ande de 1971."

The English translation is as follows, "In the year of 1966, an ill Senora Nicolasa Grimaldo and her husband, with all their heart, invoked Holy Mary, Mother of God, of San Juan of the Lakes, to give them a remedy, and in gratitude for the marvelous miracle she bestowed upon them, they give thanks and dedicate this retablo, Senor Carmen Matehuala. October 23, 1971."
