Description
Gulf of Mexico, ship wreck El Cazador, lost around January 11, 1784 CE. Four solid silver pieces of eight, in the denomination of 8 reales, minted in 1782 and 1783 in the area of Veracruz/Vera Cruz, Mexico. Interestingly, three of the coins are fused together and look just the way they did when they were pulled from the floor of the sea. Each show the portrait of the Spanish King Carlos III dressed as a Roman emperor. Size: each about 36 mm in diameter; single coin weighs 21.8 grams; triplet weighs 76.8 grams.
