Description
Europe, England, London, ca. 1860 CE. An ear version of the hearing aid, this ear horn or dome ear trumpet was dubbed as such, because of its resemblance to the shape of the dome on St. Paul's Cathedral in London. It was designed as a parbolic reflector to direct and funnel sound into the ear tube. It works quite well when fashioned in a small size like this. It is made of brass which has been given a black lacquer finish. The grill pierced with a circular motif adds to the aesthetic of this intriguing piece. Size: 3-3/4" from end of bell to end of ear piece; 2-1/4" across bell; dome measures 3-7/8"H while the height to the top of the ear piece is 3-5/8".
