Christo (Bulgarian, b. 1935)
Christo (Christo Wladimirow Jawaschew) was born in Gabrowo, Bulgaria, in 1935. He was married to Jeanne-Claude (1935-2009). Christo’s art developed from the French Nouveau Realism movement and resulted in Assemblage techniques. The couple gained international fame with their ‘veiling projects’ of buildings – notably the Reichstag in Berlin in 1995.
