An openwork swing handle basket with glass liner.

Item Details

Description

An openwork swing handle basket with blue glass liner, probably late eighteenth century, of tapering vase form above a circular spread foot, the simple wirework sides overlaid with trailing and fruiting vine and an oval panel to one side, rope-twist detail to handle and rims. Appears unmarked. Height measures 4 1/4 inches (11 cm), weight 4.95 ozt (154 grams).

Condition

The basket displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Would benefit from a clean and polish. Minor dints and the foot rim is a little uneven. There is a small hole to one side of the foot. The swing handle appears in working order but may require some tightening. Remnants of decoration or a monogram to the oval panel but this is now very worn and rubbed. No hallmarks are visible. Replacement glass liner in good condition.
