Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste, Nicoya Region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. This female venus figure stands with hands on curvy hips and perky breasts accentuating her femininity. The figure possesses the elegant stylings of the Guanacaste-Nicoya artisans. Its striking, bichromatic ceramic style in red and black with its glossy burnished finish demonstrates fine technique. The entire surface is ornately decorated. Intricate geometric patterns adorn her headdress, body paint and costume accentuating the curves of her body. This female effigy was most likely placed in the grave of an important ruler to grant him rebirth in the afterlife. Size: 3-1/2"H x 1-1/2"W.
