Description
Japanese "Order of the Sacred Treasure" medals. Awarded as the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure to Mr. Bradford F. Morse (former Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme), November 21st, 1986. Lot includes an appraisal done in 1996, valuing the pieces at a total of approx. $8,000. Also includes various pieces of original literature that accompanied the medals when presented (How to wear the medals, etc. dated 24 November 1986). Medals feature gilded silver with enameling and cabochon rubies. Smaller star is marked "GK" where loop attached at the top. Lot also includes original purple presentation box, sash, architectural poster (hand signed) and box containing the previously mentioned documents. Condition: some tarnishing to gilded finish, minor damage to attached loop on smaller star, see images for details. Larger star measures 3" in diameter, and smaller star measures a total of 2.75" tall x 2.5" wide (measures 3.3" tall including loop at the top). Presentation box measures 10" long x 2.5" tall x 5.1" wide. Total weight of medals: 173 grams. Total lot weight: 2.6 lbs.
