Ivory Dual Purpose Luxurious Picnic Cane-Ca. 1900-Long, vertical and threaded ivory knob which opens to reveal hidden in the shaft a white metal framed ivory fork and knife set fitting into one another, ebony shaft and an ivory ferrule. Very fine and well preserved example of a useful and rarely encountered system cane with the unique feature of a feather propelled knife and fork. The fancied event of an outdoor picnic called for special implements, and, towards the end of the 19th century, the picnic cane became another popular outdoor cane and a fashionable accessory.-H. 3 ¼” x 1”, O.L. 36 ½”-$700-$900
