The following treasures are from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford; noted dealers and lifelong collectors of exceptional antique & vintage heirlooms. xxxxxxxxxxx. The AEAA is very pleased to present this fine pair of antique Northwood Singing Birds, and 1980s (Imperial Glass) recreation of the well known Robin pattern Carnival Glass mugs. The Northwood is the non-stippled style, with the proper underlined N in a circle mark, seen ca. 1910, and features the deep Amethyst color. The Imperial recreation Robin is finished in a rich red (not an original Imperial color), and both have deep and rich salts. They stand 4.25 x 3.5 tall, weighing 1# 12 oz., and are in excellent condition. xxxxxxxxxxx. In 1908, shortly after Fenton introduced their iridescent Carnival & stretch glass lines, Northwood was fortunate to purchase the Jefferson Glass Co. molds vastly expanding Northwoods line capacity. Shortly thereafter, Northwood entered the Carnival glass market with the introduction their first Iridescent line, calling it Golden Iris. This was the soon to be prolific color we recognize as Marigold Carnival. Northwoods earliest production of Iridized glass in 1908 included their versions of Water Lily and Cattails, Cherry and Cable, and Valentine, among others. About this time they added amethyst, cobalt blue, and green. In 1912, Northwood added the colors we call pastel, ice blue, ice green, and white. But Northwood is probably best known for their aqua opalescent glass, which they added around the same time. Their best known pattern, Grape and Cable, was introduced in 1910, as were many of the Northwood classic patterns. Grape & Cable became so popular, that it was produced it in many colors and more than 60 different shapes. Much of the 1905 to 1915 glass was also responsible for identification of the best known trademark, the underlined N in a circle, which appears on much of Northwoods Carnival, but not all. Harry Northwood passed in 1918 and the factory ceased production in the mid 1920s.
