Description
18th century AD. A cut steel chessman seal matrix with round section short shaft and pierced handle with circular loop; the oval face with intaglio heraldic cross shield arms depicting a cross superimposed with a five-pointed star over a coronet between two stemmed roses over a stemmed rose surmounted by a crest of two plumes with a sword between two fronds all bound by a coronet between with an eye-with-eyebrow above, for the von Palmcrona family of Linkping, Sweden; with inked collector number to reverse and a note of identification. 22.65 grams, 32.77mm tall (25.99mm face) (1 1/4 (1)"). From a significant private English collection of seal matrices, formed over the past 35 years. See Adl. 1751, ointrod. and 1771; Raneke, p.284. This seal has been examined and attributed by Lars Largerqvist, a Swedish heraldry expert.
