Description
Northern Europe, Sweden, Post Medieval to Swedish Empire period, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. A lovely sterling silver pendant setting with a copper billon coin, cabochon silver ore glass, and a faceted topaz. The coin was worth a schilling or solidus, minted under King Charles (Carl) XI of Sweden. (1660 to 1697); crowned monogram of King Carl XI of Sweden, on obverse and the reverse is the Swedish Coat of Arms. The thick silver bezel lip hugs the shape of the coin and the cabochon glass is opaque blue with creamy white striations. Set between the glass and coin upper is a blue topaz, cut in modern times as a stunning accent to the pendant. The pendant is strung on a modern cord with a lobster clasp. Size of pendant: 1.75" L x 0.75" W (4.4 cm x 1.9 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 92.5%; weight: 5.9 grams
