Description
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Colima, ca. 200 BCE to 300 CE. A very fine example of a hollow figure is shown in seated position, with the large spout on the figure's back, emulating the entrance of shaft tombs within which such figures were interred with important deceased individuals. This figure was modeled by the ancient maker with an interesting crest-like protrusion at the top of the head, and with the figure's hands on his head. The figure is decorated with black and red original pigment, and incised decoration in a diamond pattern around the waist. Size: 10-3/4"H x 6"W.
