Description
A large Egyptian steatite scarab, Late Period, 25th - 26th Dynasties, c. 746 - 525 BC, the body nicely carved with good detail, the wide base with rather stylized signs and the cartouche Men-Kheper-Re, which is either an amuletic cartouche of Pharaoh Thutmose III or the prenomen of one of the 25th dynasty kings. L: 2 in (5.1cm). Minor edge chip, light deposits. Ex Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
