Athens, Greece, ca. 440 to 404 BCE. Silver tetradrachm depicting the helmeted head of Athena right/owl standing right with olive sprig and crescent behind. All within incuse square. In Greek mythology, an owl usually represents or accompanies Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom. Often referred to as the Owl of Athena, it has been used as a symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Size: 2cm in diameter.
