STOVER (HAYCOCK, BUCKS CO., PENNSYLVANIA, ACTIVE MID-19TH CENTURY) FOLK ART FRAKTUR DRAWING, watercolor, ink, and pencil on paper, a bold composition exhibiting a veritable survey of Germanic-American (particularly Bucks County) iconography, including a tulip-like device issuing from a heart, a bird perched on flowering heart reserve, and a pelican / distelfink plucking her breast to feed her young. Inscribed "Abm. S. Stover" at center. Housed under glass (not laid down) in a period folk art heart-inlaid walnut frame with cornerblocks. Circa 1856-1857. 9 3/8" x 7 3/8" sight, 11 3/4" x 9 3/4" OA.

Catalogue Note: Abraham S. Stover appears to have been either a student or a schoolmaster in Haycock Township, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania around 1856 - 1857, and his drawings exhibit multiple direct influences of other fraktur artists working at earlier dates in the region. Several of his folk art fraktur works on paper have been recorded though little of his life is documented. Examples of his work reside in the Mercer Museum and in the Haycock Township Historical Society.

Very good visual condition with exceptionally strong color. Minor toning to edges. Probably trimmed at lower edge.
