Description

STAMPED "F. H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG", PENNSYLVANIA DECORATED STONEWARE BATTER JUG, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, ovoid form with incised shoulder ring, open-loop handle supports, protruding spout, and applied arched handle at reverse base, Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt decorative ornament below stamp, brushed cobalt under spout and at handles. Original wire and wooden bail handle, and tin covers. Circa 1881-1888. 8 3/4" H rim.

Provenance: The collection of Ronnie and Neal Kite of Esmont, VA.

Condition

Excellent condition, minor chip to rim and very light 1/14" hairline off base under spout.
