issued on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo, after Austrian success in ending French rule in Naples at the Battle of Tolentino proved a decisive turn of events, a scene of devastation for Napoleon as he is thrown from his horse by lightning raining down from black clouds, breaking to reveal Blücher, Wellington, Liverpool, the Russian tsar and Austrian emperor, while the king, Joachim Murat, and his wife, Caroline Bonaparte, are hurled from an erupting Vesuvius, the crown and sceptre falling into the arms of Ferdinand IV of Sicily, original hand-coloured etching, 260 x 370mm., trimmed on the platemark but outside the washed border, [BM Satires 12555], Hannah Humphrey, 1815 § Heath (William) Attributed to. A Scene on the Frontiers, also issued on 17th June, after Napoleon had split the allied armies with a surprise march that had forced the British army to retreat to Waterloo, showing him on a fortress parapet, taunting Wellington, Blücher and the Tsar, the first two eager for battle, the last now losing his nerve, original hand-coloured etching, 245 x 350mm., a repaired tear through the title, [not in BM Satires], Thomas Tegg, 1815 (2)
