Description
A late 19th century garnet and paste necklace. Designed as a series of three circular garnet cabochon and circular-shape red paste clusters, to the red paste cluster back-chain and partially concealed clasp. Length 35cms.
Condition
Overall condition fair. Surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and dents in keeping with general age and wear. The necklace has possibly been put together from various components, one of the links was formerly a clasp which has been soldered fixed shut. Areas of tarnishing and discolouration to the reverse of each link. Surface reaching inclusions to the garnet cabochons, appear as chips, surface reaching inclusion to central garnet. One red paste deficient. Abrasion and chips visible to the red paste. Several of the settings appear loose and damaged and would need to be secured.
