French Baroque portrait of Duchess Maria Anna Christine Victoria of Bavaria as Ceres by French artist Pierre Mignard. Pierre Mignard, also known as "Le Romain", was a court artist and well known artist from 1630 until the time of his death. The sitter in this portrait was the Dauphine of France, she lived to the age of 29, but was in her time one of the most prominent female figures in the French court. This painting adopts a classical Baroque style with the dark solid background, carefully detailed costumes, and the adoption of Ceres as the sitter's identity. The painting has been professionally restored, but it formerly has punctures on the top left corner. The frame has has patches of wear throughout but the golden gilding is 80% complete. Overall very good condition. As a whole, the work measures 45 inches wide by 57 inches tall. This lot has a reserve.
