Description
This 17th-century oil-on-board painting is Pierre Mignard I. Mignard (1612-1695) painted in the classical French Baroque manner, and was known primarily for his court portraits. This work shows what appears to be a richly dressed nobleman, seated and holding a walking stick. With him are a dog and a young black man. The subject is sitting in a window and wearing a red robe. In the background you can see a villa and some trees, lit in the warm colors of a sunrise or sunset. The gold-framed painting measures 16" tall X 14" across. A similar piece by Frans van Mieris hangs in the Louvre.
